Surreal, dark, and grotesque… All of these adjectives are the very essence of The Doll’s Alphabet, written by Camilla Grudova and published on February 14, 2017. This collection of tales exposes thirteen short stories, each stranger than the last and will leave you feeling like you’re locked in a giant cabinet of curiosities! The stories are crafted with originality, extravagance, and humor. The abundance of vocabulary is a positive point when you are learning English, as we are. Because this is a short story collection, it is faster to read. Also, there are a lot of different atmospheres which keep you reading with enthusiasm! In a nutshell, this book is a great reading companion for any English student who wants to browse brief and intriguing stories. In our opinion, it’s a very good idea to question the problems of today’s society in a completely imaginary atmosphere, accessible to as many readers as possible. Grudova forces us to confront uncomfortable truths about ourselves and the world we live in. However, some stories are too abstract, which makes it kind of difficult to understand the message sometimes. If you are ready to question yourself and the reality you are surrounded by, we recommend this book, but be prepared to have some tormented nights. So beware! These doll stories aren’t for children, they’re too suspicious, strange and scary!
