Loved reading and writing since she was a child. She studied English and creative writing.
Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a teacher and a journalist. She likes to write about characters who are different or live on the
Edge of society.
In 2007, she published her first short story collection, Some New Ambush, which won the Frank O’Connor International Short Story
Award. Later, her collection The Redemption of Galen Pike also received an important prize. In 2018, she published her novel West, which tells the story of a widowed man traveling across the United States with his daughter.
Today, Carys Davies continues to write stories and teach creative writing. She is interested in themes like loneliness, human
Relationships, and the beauty of the world around us.
She, who clearly listens to Hearts
In the world, there are around 7000 languages, yet sometimes they are spoken by a small community or only one man. In this novel, Ivar is the last speaker of his language but he can understand when his heart speaks.
This novel recounts the evolution of a relationship built between two different language speakers, Ivar and John, who learnt to communicate using their bodies and expressions and simply trying to understand each other’s feelings by paying attention to what their hearts had to say. The lesson we learn from this story is mainly that human bonds are stronger than isolation, distance, order, and religion.
Human relationships, isolation and language are often associated, which makes this book an original awareness raiser about colonisation and exclusion of communities.
So, if you like socially conscious books and love, this novel is for you!
On the contrary, if you like a clear ending, this story is not for you. Indeed, the end of this novel will leave you puzzled!
