La Villa Gillet : International observatory of contemporary languages
La Villa Gillet (Lyon) is a unique and original cultural institute interested in culture in all its forms: literature, human sciences, political and social sciences, history, contemporary art etc.
It brings together artists, writers, novelists and researchers from all over the world to encourage public debate on the big issues facing the world today at conferences, debates, round tables and book readings.
Open to all, the Villa Gillet allows the wider public to gain access to the heart of the intellectual life of contemporary languages and ideas.

> From September to April: meetings with authors and debates
Every week, the Villa Gillet invites you to meet novelists, philosophers and researchers who analyse various different themes.

> The International Forum on the Novel :
Literature: a gateway to the world today
Once a year, authors from all over the world, international literary critics and readers all come together to dialogue and debate with each other over the course of a week. Round tables, interviews and public book readings are conceived and co-organised with Le Monde at Les Subsistances. Next year’s event will be held from the 24th to the 30st May 2010.

> An international presence :
- Anglophone translators are invited to come and stay in Lyon with the co-operation of the cultural services of the French embassies in New York and Great Britain and the Pen American Center.
- The Villa Gillet is also an official partner of the international literature festival, "World Voices", held in New-York

The Villa Gillet, created by the Région Rhône-Alpes in 1987, is today sponsored by the Région Rhône-Alpes, the Ville de Lyon, the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles Rhône-Alpes, le Centre National du Livre, and is supported by the French Foreign Office (Ministère des Affaires Etrangères.)
