Luc Boltanski, born in 1940, is a sociologist. He is currently director of studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. I In De la critique, he examines the relationship between sociology and social criticism: does criticism divert sociology from its scientific programme, or is it the very purpose, without which sociology would be a futile activity, detached from the concerns that motivate people in society? He also published an opera with Champ Vallon in 2009, Déluge.
De la critique – Précis de sociologie de l’émancipation (Gallimard, 2009)
