Luc Boltanski, born in 1940, is a sociologist. He is currently director of studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. I
In De la
critique, he examines the relationship
between sociology and social criticism: does criticism divert sociology from
its scientific programme, or is it the very purpose, without which sociology
would be a futile activity, detached from the concerns that motivate people in
society? He also published an opera with Champ Vallon in 2009, Déluge.

Universität in Frankfurt, where he succeeded Jürgen Habermas, as well as

anchored in the social world” is central.
