Translation residences
Translators in residence: a way of introducing French literature to the Anglophone world
Since 2006 the Villa Gillet has been inviting American and British translators to the Villa Gillet to translate works of French literature which have not yet been published in English. Their presence is the opportunity for cultural exchange, translation seminars and public meetings. The project is the fruit of a partnership forged with the PEN American Center and the book services of the French, British and American embassies.
The translators stay at the Subsistances, a laboratory of artistic creation (Lyon).
Since the beginning of this programme, the Villa Gillet welcomed : Bruce Benderson (USA), Peter Brown (USA), Marjolijn de Jager (USA), Adriana Hunter (GB), Donald Nicholson-Smith (GB / USA), Catherine Temerson (USA), Alyson Waters (USA), Frank Wynne (Irlande).
